Welding guns

One of the most widely used tools for resistance welding is the welding gun. The welding gun is the mobile and variable version of a welding machine. It is used in a wide variety of designs for automated systems or robots as well as for manual applications. It is mainly used in the automotive industry. Depending on the degree of automation and the number of pieces, up to approx. 600 clamps are required for a shell. The movement of the welding gun is realised either via an axis construction, a robot or a human. In principle, a distinction is made between transformer tongs with integrated welding transformer or cable tongs with separate welding transformer.

Currently, transformer pliers are predominantly used for both robot pliers and hand pliers. The basic structure of a welding gun is due to its function: on the one hand, the electrode force must be applied and on the other hand, the welding current must be transmitted. The transformer tongs basically consist of the welding transformer, the power assembly system (cylinder or motor), the fittings and the secondary circuit, the tong arms with the electrode holder. The pliers are designed either as X or C pliers. The force build-up is achieved via pneumatic force generation systems (air cylinders) or, in recent times, increasingly via electric motor systems (servo systems).

The electrodes, the electrode arms and the transformers are water-cooled. A hose package with hoses and supply lines for water, compressed air, power and control is used to supply the welding guns. The hand tongs are held by a balancer and guided by the operator. A welding control unit and a power unit are required for each welding gun. This closes the circle to Harms & Wende, which offers optimally designed control cabinets and systems with regulation and monitoring for controlling and supplying all types of welding guns.

No matter which type of welding gun you use, whether it is a robot gun in a mid-frequency version and with servo drive or a manual gun with pneumatic force generation and 50 Hz technology, your HWH partner has the right control system and the right welding cabinet for your application.
